by Bay City News

A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash near Martinez on Monday evening has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 20-year-old Karl Barber, of Clayton.

CHP officers said someone reported seeing Barber down in the roadway in the area of Franklin Canyon Road and Cummings Skyway, near state Highway 4.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Further details on the crash were not immediately available, but CHP investigators do not believe any other vehicles were involved. According to Barber's Facebook page, the 20-year-old went to Clayton Valley High School and worked as a lifeguard at Waterworld in Concord. On a post written on May 28, Barber said he had just received his motorcycle license.
