Mother, Baby Killed in Head-On Crash Identified

A 1-year-old girl and her mother who died in a head-on collision in Concord on Friday night have been identified, a Contra Costa County coroner's deputy said today.

Lorena Dominguez, 23, and her infant daughter Khloe Duenas of Concord died in the crash on the Kinne Bridge overcrossing near the former Concord Naval Weapons Station around 11 p.m. Friday, according to the coroner's office.

Dominguez' boyfriend was in the same car and suffered major injuries in the crash, Concord police Officer Ken Carlson said.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, as were four people - including three juveniles -- inside the second car involved in the crash. All five are expected to survive, police said.

Carlson said the head-on crash happened when one of the cars crossed over the roadway's center line.

A police officer driving on Willow Pass Road saw the deadly crash and called for additional units and emergency crews.

Medical responders rendered aid to the baby, who was taken to a hospital where she died. Her mother was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and investigators are awaiting toxicology test results to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, Carlson said.
