Man Killed in Bay Point Shooting Identified as Pittsburg Resident

Investigators think homicide was "not a random act"

Bay City News—A man found shot to death in a car in Bay Point on Wednesday has been identified by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department as 24-year-old Pittsburg resident Earl Moffett Anderson.

Sheriff's deputies found Anderson just before 5 p.m. Wednesday with multiple gunshot wounds in the front seat of a car still in gear at the intersection of Evora Road and Mota Drive in Bay Point, Lt. Mike Burton said.

Moments earlier, deputies had received multiple calls from people who reported hearing gunshots in the area, Burton said.

Deputies said they believe Anderson was the intended target in the shooting and not a victim of a random act, but so far they don't have leads about potential suspects.

The residential neighborhood where the shooting occurred on the west side of Bay Point, Burton said, is an unlikely place for a homicide. He said that a number of children and adults were walking around the area when deputies arrived Wednesday afternoon.
