Good Samaritans Tried Saving Victim of Sunday's Highway 242 Fatal Crash

Man lifted car off victim and nurse attempted to revive her, according to the CHP.

A woman who died in a crash in Concord Sunday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 25-year-old Crystal Ferris.

Ferris, a Martinez resident, was driving a silver Honda Civic on northbound Highway 242 flyover connector to state Highway 4 around 4 p.m. Sunday when her through a railing, and onto southbound Highway 242 below, California Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen said.

She was ejected from the car, which landed on top of her, he said.

Fransen said two good Samaritans stopped at the scene and tried to rescue Ferris.

One man was able to lift the car off of her, while a nurse who had also pulled over helped try to revive her along with the first arriving CHP officer.

Emergency responders pronounced Ferris dead at the scene a short time later, Fransen said.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
