Former Diablo View Middle Teacher Gets 9 Years for Sex Crimes
Andrew Bruce Cottrell, 42, was sentenced to nine years in prison for sex crimes with a former underage student, may serve up to 20 years of parole.
Former Diablo View Middle School teacher Andrew Bruce Cottrell was sentenced to nine years in prison Monday for sex crimes against a former 14-year-old student and for posession of child pornography, according to a Contra Costa Times report.
Cottrell, 42, took a plea deal Monday consisting of four counts of unlawful sex with a minor; one of oral copulation with a minor younger than 16; one of lewd acts on a child under 14 or 15, and one for posession of child pornography, according to the CCTimes.
The Walnut Creek resident at the Diablo View Middle School campus in Decemeber and eventually fired by the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

The former math and science teacher faced 22 total felony charges before accepting the above-described plea deal.
In addition to nine years in prison, Cottrell was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, to never have contact with his victim and warned he could potentially serve up to 20 years in parole, according to the report.
