Fire Investigators Seek Help Solving Concord Arson Case

A porch was set on fire at at home on Joan Court in Concord Saturday, causing no injuries but $3,000 in damages. Investigators urge anyone with information to get in touch.

A Concord couple awoke Saturday morning to find their front porch in flames, and now investigators are searching for the arsonist who set fire to the wicker furniture and could have burned the house down.

The fire was set just before 6 a.m. on Nov. 24 at a house in the 1300 block of Joan Court, the Contra Costa Times reports. No one was injured, owing to the fact that couple was woken up by the sound of coffee table glass shattering on the porch and seeing a "light".

Five or ten minutes more, and the flames would have made their way into the house through the front window of the kitchen, according to Contra Costa Fire Protection District investigator Vic Massenkoff.

"Thank God he woke up and managed to get the flames out before our home burnt to the ground with us in it!" the victim said in an email to Claycord.com.

The blaze caused around $3,000 in damages and "appears to be random," said Massenkoff, who added that investigators could not find a reason why the house would have been targeted.
