Fire Destroys Old Malta's Bar

Firefighters spent 80 minutes quelling the blaze.

A fire destroyed a vacant building in Concord early Wednesday that once housed Malta's bar, Contra Costa County Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.

The one-alarm fire was reported at 3:40 a.m. at 3466 Willow Pass Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming through the roof of the one-story building.

It took about 40 minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control, Broschard said.

Broschard said the bar had been closed about six years and that the building was used mainly as storage.

No other buildings were damaged.

No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was available. The cause is undetermined, Broschard said.
