Firefighters quickly located a stovetop fire and extinguished it before it could spread much farther, the fire marshal said.

As they were evacuating smoke from the house, fire personnel also found 10 bulldogs in individual cages, he said.

The firefighters quickly carried the dogs out of the house and onto the driveway. Broschard said the fire response came just in time for the animals.

"A few more minutes and chance are the smoke would have gotten all the way to the floor, and made it unlivable for the dogs," he said.

No injuries were reported.Fire personnel determined the blaze was caused by something on or near the kitchen stove.
