Feds Nab 8 Sex Offenders

FBI descended upon Contra Costa County for three days of compliance checks.

By Bay City News

Federal, state and local law enforcement officers arrested eight sex offenders during a sweep in Contra Costa County last week, sheriff's officials said. During the three-day operation, U.S. marshals, county sheriff's deputies and officers from various other agencies arrested the eight sex offenders for parole or probation violations, according to the sheriff's office.

An additional 70 compliance checks were conducted to ensure that registered offenders were living at their stated places of residence and following the conditions of their parole or probation, sheriff's officials said. Officials from the U.S. Marshal Service, the main federal agency charged with ensuring that sex offenders comply with court requirements, said the sweep is an example of their policy of proactive enforcement.

"Everybody wants our streets to be safe for our families," U.S. Marshal Don O'Keefe said in a statement. "As a community, we have, and will continue, to be diligent in our efforts to enforce compliance with all laws, and remove those individuals from society who choose to not comply."

Agencies participating in the operation included the FBI, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's Fugitive Apprehension Team and the California Highway Patrol.
