Driver Identified in Skateboarder Fatality

Police have released the name of the 21-year-old driver who struck and killed Scott Hickerson, also 21, on Dec. 7. The cause of the collision is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

The Concord Police Department has released information about the driver who struck and killed 21-year-old Scott Hickerson while he was riding his skateboard on Monument Boulevard Friday.

The driver was Amanda Benning, also 21, of Clayton.

An investigation is under way as to the cause of the collision, pending witness interviews and toxicology results, and no arrests have been made.

Monument Boulevard at Erickson is a busy intersection with a traffic light.

According to police, Benning was heading eastbound on Monument Boulevard the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 7 in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Hickerson was crossing northbound at Erickson Road on his skateboard when he was hit by the SUV.

He suffered major injuries and was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek where he later died from his injuries.
