A 45-year-old Concord woman was pulled over in San Rafael Monday for tailgating, and wound up in jail on drug charges.
An officer was on patrol on Highway 101 near Manuel T. Freitas Parkway in Terra Linda when he saw a silver 2011 Mitsubishi Montero tailgating at 11:07 a.m. Monday, CHP officer Andrew Barclay said. The officer pulled over the driver at the Lincoln Avenue exit and made a reference check on her identity, finding that she had was wanted in Contra Costa County on suspicion of transporting methamphetamines, Barclay said.
The officer arrested Laurel Margaret Smith and then searched her, discovering a small amount of meth and marijuana on her person, he said. She was booked into Marin County Jail at 12:37 p.m. and faces felony charges of transporting or selling a controlled substance and possessing a controlled substance. Her bail was set at $370,000.
