Concord Teen Arrested After Suspected Drag Race Causes Crash

An 18-year-old Concord woman has been arrested after she allegedly caused a car to flip and crash in a Pleasant Hill parking lot just after 12:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Police suspect that Paula Eddy Lazarov, a Concord resident, was racing another car westbound on Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill and travelling at a high rate of speed when the vehicles collided near the intersection with Kahrs Avenue, causing both drivers to lose control. Lazarov's green Honda Civic was able to stop without hitting anything else, but the other car — a silver Ford Focus — ran off the road and landed upside down in the parking lot.

The driver of the Ford, a male whose age has not been released, suffered serious injuries and was taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek where he is currently in serious condition, according to police.

There were three passengers in Lazarov's car and four in the other vehicle, according to police, and the occupants of both vehicles all knew each other.

Following the crash, the occupants of the Honda stopped and took a female passenger of the Ford to John Muir Hospital in Concord, according to police.

Police found Lazarov at the hospital and charged her with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a vehicle collision with injury, both of which are felonies.

Lazarov was taken to County Jail in Martinez where she was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
