Concord Police Host Gun Buyback

Contra Costa residents will be able to anonymously swap their guns for gifts cards this weekend as part of the Concord Police Department's gun buyback event at Sleep Train Pavilion on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Concord police have teamed up with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office to host the event, which provides anonymity to anyone donating operable firearms. Residents may be asked to show an ID or utility bill, but only to establish residency in Contra Costa County, according to the Concord Police Department.

In return, participants will receive up to $200 in gift cards for an assault weapon, up to $100 in gift cards for handguns, and up to $50 in gift cards for shotguns or rifles.

County residents interested In swapping their guns for gift cards are asked to transport the firearms to the Sleep Train Pavilion unloaded and with the safety on.

The Antioch, Brentwood and the Pittsburg Police Departments will also be conducting gun buyback programs during the same hours Saturday, at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch. The Richmond Police Department will also be sponsoring a gun buyback from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Richmond City Hall.
