Concord Man Arrested for Suspected DUI in Friday Crash Killing Mother, Baby

A man has been arrested in connection with a head-on collision that killed a 1-year-old girl and her mother in Concord on Friday night, police said today.

Gerardo Harquin, 24, of Concord was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury, child endangerment and false impersonation of another in connection with the crash, which killed 23-year-old Concord resident Lorena Dominguez and her infant daughter Khloe Duenas, according to police.

Concord police Officer Ken Carlson said Dominguez, her 27-year-old boyfriend and the baby were in a Dodge Charger when it collided head-on with a Ford Explorer on the Kinne Bridge overcrossing near the former Concord Naval Weapons Station around 11 p.m. Friday, police said.

A police officer driving on Willow Pass Road saw the deadly crash and called for additional units and emergency crews. Medical responders rendered aid to the baby, who was taken to a hospital where she died.

Her mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Dominguez's boyfriend was taken to a hospital with major injuries, police said.

Police said Harquin was driving the Ford Explorer with three passengers -- a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.

All four were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries and Harquin was later arrested.

He was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $575,000 bail.

Carlson said the head-on crash happened when one of the cars crossed over the roadway's center line.
