Concord Man Allegedly Drives 100 mph, Rams Cop Car in Sonoma Before Arrest

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrested a Concord man Monday night who allegedly rammed a deputy's patrol car after a vehicle pursuit in Sonoma.

A deputy saw a gray Toyota Camry driving erratically in the area of Verano Avenue and Riverside Drive around 10:30 p.m., Sgt. Adrian Mancilla said.

The driver accelerated the Toyota, straddled the middle of the road and turned the car's headlights on and off, Mancilla said.

When the deputy tried to stop the Toyota, the driver sped away at 100 mph during the ensuing 15-minute pursuit on surface streets in Sonoma Valley, Mancilla said.

The driver turned into the Hanna Boys Center on Arnold Drive where deputies used a PIT maneuver to spin the Toyota to a stop, Mancilla said.

The driver then drove toward and rammed the pursuing patrol car causing moderate damage to both vehicles, Mancilla said.

Deputies removed 61-year-old Christopher McRee, of Concord, from the vehicle, Mancilla said.

McRee was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, evading a police officer and driving on a suspend license.

He was booked in the Sonoma County jail under $30,000 bail.

Deputies were unable to determine why McRee fled the deputy but he was arrested last week for evading police in Alameda County and might have mental health issue, Mancilla said.
