Concord K-9 Bites Fleeing Armed Robbery Suspect

Two males in their early 20s were arrested just after midnight Thursday morning and charged with armed robbery involving a flare gun. A police dog was used to apprehend one of the suspects who was fleeing on foot, according to CPD.

A Concord police K-9 was used Thursday morning to apprehend a fleeing suspect wanted in connection with an an armed robbery near Lacey Lane and Monument Boulevard. No injuries were reported, according to the Concord Police Department (CPD).

Two Hispanic males in their early 20s — both Concord residents — were arrested and charged with armed robbery, according to Concord Police Lt. Robin Heinemann. The suspects were allegedly armed with a flare gun when they robbed a 25-year-old male Concord resident around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

The suspects fled on foot, but were seen by the victim near the Wendy's on Monument Boulevard. Police detained one of the suspects outside the Monument 7-Eleven, and a chase ensued with the other.

After the suspect failed to heed officer's commands, according to CPD, a police dog was released. The K-9 "quickly caught the second suspect," said Heinemann.

The victim identified the two suspects and both were taken into custody.

The case is now under investigation, according to Heinemann.
