Concord High Football Player Shot, Killed in San Francisco

A senior at Concord High School, 17-year-old Montreal Blakely, was shot around 10 p.m. Saturday night and pronounced dead at hospital.

A 17-year-old senior at Concord High School was shot and killed at around 10 p.m. Saturday in San Francisco's Bayview District.

Montreal Blakely, a defender for the Concord Minutemen football team, was taken to hospital by a friend where he was pronounced dead.

No other details of the shooting have been made available. San Francisco police say they have no suspects at this time.

According to Blakely's profile on the high school football website MaxPreps, he played his last game against Clayton Valley on Nov. 23 for a shot at the division II championship. He was jersey number nine for the Concord Minutemen.

On the Concord Minutemen Facebook page, commenters are leaving condolence messages such as "R.I.P Montreal ..." and "We Love You Montreal."

"He was a great kid, great teammate," said head coach Brian Hamilton. "He was super friendly and conscientious ... it's a real tragedy."

Many students at the school organized via social media to wear black today to mourn Blakely, and a vigil for him is planned at the football field at 7 p.m. Friday, Hamilton said.

The team's defensive coordinator, Randy Coddington, said Blakely was a team leader.

"He was very hard-working, got really good grades. Everyone on the team liked him," Coddington said.

Concord High has made grief counselors available, a school employee told the Contra Costa Times.
