Concord Cop Accused of Swiping Rx Drugs Resigns
Former Officer Switzer turned himself in Friday, was booked in Martinez jail on $240K bail with arraignment Tuesday.
A Concord police officer accused of stealing prescription drugs from seniors resigned from the department on Friday, Concord Police Department Chief Guy Swanger said today.
Officer Matthew Switzer is set to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary, one count of fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs and one count of elder abuse, Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Barry Grove said today.
Switzer turned himself in to face the charges on Friday and was booked into county jail in Martinez under $240,000 bail, Grove said.
He is accused of using his status as a police officer to steal Norco, a powerful prescription pain drug, by entering residences in a senior apartment complex in downtown Concord and pocketing the drug, according to Grove.
Swanger initiated the investigation in February after a resident tipped off the department in February that Switzer had been allegedly stealing drugs.
Switzer was put on administrative leave that day until his resignation Friday, according to Swanger.
