Three Charged in Barnes Murder Investigation Plead Not Guilty

Shelby Barnes, 21, died in October from blunt force injuries received during an alleged attack in Concord.

Three suspects charged with the murder of a 21-year-old Concord woman pleaded not guilty in Contra Costa County Superior Court Tuesday morning, a prosecutor said.

Barnes, of Benicia, died in October of blunt force injuries allegedly received during an attack involving a knife and an unspecified blunt object at her father's Concord house on Glenside Court where she was living, according to the county's District Attorney and Coroner's Offices.

Two of the three suspects facing murder charges, Donald Paul Waldecker, 23, of Concord and Randi Len Dees, 20, of Richmond, were arrested in October.

The third, 17-year-old Johnathan Ismael Harriel, also from Concord, and is being tried as an adult.

The three remain in jail and will be back in court for a hearing on Feb. 23.
