Bomb Squad Investigating Concord Home, Several Houses Evacuated

Several houses have been evacuated on a Concord street this afternoon as a bomb squad investigates a suspicious situation at a home. The Walnut Creek bomb squad was called to a home in the 1800 block of Johnson Drive to assist Concord police around 3 p.m., a Walnut Creek police dispatcher said.

A resident on the block said as of 5 p.m. there were two Concord police cars and the bomb squad truck blocking the street. Earlier he said there were as many as six patrol vehicles on the block. He said the activity started after 3 p.m. when authorities evacuated several homes. He was told to avoid checking out the happenings two houses over while authorities searched the residence. The resident said a firefighter told him that there was a possible bomb in a home.

Police and people in bomb suits had been walking in and out of the house for the past two hours, he said. The resident said a man and a woman live in the home and that they seemed quiet and unassuming. Around 5:15 p.m. the resident said it looked like the street was starting to reopen. Concord police did not immediately provide information about the bomb scare.
