Alleged Wrong-Way Driver & Carjacker from Pacheco in Court Today
Police say the 32-year-old caused havoc Sunday on the 101 in South San Francisco.
A 32-year-old Pacheco man who allegedly attempted to carjack three vehicles on a U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp in South San Francisco on Sunday is being arraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court this afternoon, according to the district attorney's office.
Michael James Finley, of Pacheco, was taken into custody after he led South San Francisco police on a chase through city streets and then drove the wrong way onto a Highway 101 off-ramp, according to a police report.
At around 3:40 p.m., patrol officers attempted to stop Finley for a traffic violation in the 800 block of Miller Avenue, police said.
He refused to pull over and drove off at high speed, police said. The chase ended when Finley tried to drive north onto a southbound off-ramp from Highway 101 to Grand Avenue, police said.
He crashed into another vehicle, got out of his car, and allegedly tried to carjack three separate drivers who had been forced to stop on the off-ramp, police said.
No one was injured, and Finley was quickly apprehended by South San Francisco police and California Highway Patrol officers.
Stolen property and methamphetamine were seized during a search of the suspect and his vehicle, police said.
Finley faces numerous charges, including carjacking and drug possession, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
