I want to give my birthday gift to them!

On Sunday, one of my church members came to me. "Pastor Lee, I want to give my birthday gift to the family who need foods!" He purchased a gift card of a grocery store from our church gift card shop and gave it to me. Couple Sundays ago, I shared a story of a single mom who was struggling to meet her ends. For some families, holiday season is a tougher times to go through. He wanted to help her.
On Christmas Day, we emphasized that Christmas was not our birthday and we should share what we have with others. When we were young, we waited for Santa Claus and our gifts. However, when we became adults, we ourselves became Santa to other families. We shared toys for tots for the less fortunate families. We purchased extra underwear for the homeless families ("Buy one give on free").
However, our church members now went one step further. Even on their own birthdays, the started to give gift to others. We are so used to receive birthday gifts from others. This is a new and exciting step towards Christian perfection. If all of our church members decided to give a gift card to the poor families, what would happen in our town? I cannot imagine the transformation that the gift-giving movement would bring!
