Death Notice: Mt. Diablo Coach Passed Away

Hart Fairclough recently passed away at his home in Pleasant Hill, California. He was 89. 

The U.C. Berkeley graduate is renowned in the Concord area for teaching math at Mt. Diablo High School and coaching football. Fairclough’s coaching guided his football teams to multiple conference championships in the late fifties and early sixties. He retired in 1984.

While teaching, he met his future wife Betty Joanne Blankenship of Lafayette.  They raised four girls in Walnut Creek.   

After his retirement, he was inducted into the Mt. Diablo Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also an honorary board member of the Concord Historical Society.  

He is survived by his sister and his children. His family will commemorate his passing privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name  to the Mt. Diablo Sports Hall of Fame, the Concord Historical Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
