Community Workshop Set For Downtown Concord Specific Plan

Help the city plan for the future of the greater downtown Concord area at May 6 workshop.

Residents and business owners interested in finding out about changes proposed for land use, transportation, design, and open space in Concord’s greater downtown area should attend the Downtown Concord Specific Plan community workshop set for Monday, May 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Salvio Pacheco Square, 2151 Salvio St., Suite 201.

The planning area includes the downtown Concord BART station, Terminal Shopping Center, Park-N-Shop Shopping Center, Todos Santo Plaza, and a variety of mixed use, commercial and residential areas. At the workshop, participants will learn about the project timeline and preliminary development alternatives beginning formulated.

The last time a plan was prepared for the downtown area was over ten years ago. Since then, the City has lost a major source of downtown investment, Redevelopment Agency funds, and must devise new strategies for strengthening existing assets, while attracting investment for new downtown improvements. When finished, the Specific Plan will provide a vision for how the downtown will integrate housing, jobs, retail, and transportation, creating improved access for pedestrians, cyclists, and the disabled.
