On Tap: Winter Brews Fest This Saturday
This week's On Tap fills you in on the upcoming Winter Brews Festival and some impressive new numbers about the popularity of the craft beer industry.

While that may not be the solution to all problems (and I say "may not" because I would like to think it could be), this Saturday's 2013 Winter Brews Festival in Downtown Concord certainly is a good start.
It's been a very eventful week with a Monday holiday for many, a Presidential inauguration and a local team locking up a Super Bowl bid.

..... You look like you could use a beer!
Well, how about a whole Todos Santos Plaza-full of them? From noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday, you'll have the opportunity to try various brews from local and regional favorites alike. Your ticket entitles you to unlimited tastings with live music along with food available for purchase once you're inside the event.

Keep the kids and dogs at home since Concord has a no-dogs policy on the Plaza and society has a "no one under 21 drinks" policy. That's ok, though — less distraction to take you away from your beer.
And it appears that more and more people are focusing on craft beer these days. According to Craft Beer News, an industry publication from Beer Marketer's Insights, twenty-seven major "craft brewers" all saw increases in the amount of beer shipped in 2012. Sixteen of those 27 had increase-percentages in the double digits.
Overall, the craft beer industry saw a 12 percent rise in product shipped last year. Petaluma's Lagunitas Brewing celebrated a 46 percent jump over their previous year. Sierra Nevada of Chico, the sector's second largest producer, experienced their largest growth in more than a decade at 12.6 percent.
Both are expected at the Brews Fest as is Concord's own Ale Industries, who will also be holding an "after party" at their Concord brewery on Detroit Avenue beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets to the event are $35 in advance and will include a commemorative glass for the first 500 attendees. Designated drivers receive free admission. Ticket prices go up to $40 at the gate.
