Registration Open for Fourth of July 5K, Parade and Fire Truck Pull

Here's the schedule of events for Concord's annual July 4 jubilee and how to get involved.

The red, white and bluest day of the year is almost here, and Concord is getting ready for an annual jubilee event that starts with a run and ends with a singing flag.

Locals can take part by registering for the Concord Police Association's 4th Annual Stars and Stripes 5K Walk and Run to benefit the Monument Crisis Center and the police community fund. Registration can be done online and costs $30 before June 30 or $35 on the day of the event. A kids run takes place at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. Participants run up Salvio Street and around Baldwin Park before continuing along Bonifacio and through the residential area, then back down Port Chicago to Todos Santos Plaza.

A Fourth of July parade presented and funded by Tesoro Golden Eagle Refinery starts at 10 a.m. at Mt. Diablo High School. The parade travels south down Grant Street to Willow Pass and wraps around the plaza before returning by Mt. Diablo Street. Parade entries are due by June 17.

Also being held during the parade is a fire truck pull benefiting the Special Olympics. Teams from businesses, police, fire and non-profit organizations will compete against one other to tow a 44,000-pound Contra Costa fire truck a total of 20 feet. Registration is $500 per 10-person team and includes a t-shirt.

The Concord Antique Faire is organizing all the food, arts and crafts vendors for Todos Santos Plaza on July 4, and the Concord-Diablo Rotary is hosting a pancake breakfast and hot dog lunch for $5.

In the evening, the celebration moves over to Dave Brubeck Park, where Calvary Temple Church presents the "singing flag" variety show starting at 7 p.m. and, of course, fireworks.
