Quadriplegic Man Gives Peer Support to Others With Disabilities

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Michael Hopfe
Town: Concord, CA
Nominated by: Joanna Nelson

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Michael provides peer support to paraplegics and quadriplegics in Contra Costa County. He continually reminds people around him to see the good around them even at the darkest times. He helps people see things through his eyes, things most would normally take for granted.

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

A few years ago, Michael fell down the stairs at his home, and became a quadriplegic. He had been a runner and cyclist as well as a policeman (retired) prior to his accident.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

Almost every time he posts on Facebook he shares the way his life was touched that day. He continually sees the bright side in situations. He touches so many lives. He inspires so many people from his wheelchair.
