All 19 cities in Contra Costa County are invited to bring their Mayor (Vice Mayor or Council Member if Mayor is not available) and a Chef from their city to compete “iron-chef” style for the grand prize. Each chef will be given a grocery bag containing a protein food item and produce from local farmers.

Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association is donating the locally grown produce with some food also coming from the Mt. Diablo High School garden.

Grocery Outlet of Concord is donating the protein food item, grains, oil, etc. Local judges decide what their favorite dish is based on creativity, presentation, taste and most importantly healthiness.

“The Mayors’ Cook-off is a great opportunity to promote healthy eating and to encourage people from each of the areas to include fresh vegetables in their meals,” said Greg Pursley, PCFMA Regional Manager.

He adds, “We hope this encourages other counties around the area to join in on the fun.”

The public is welcome to attend the Concord Farmers’ Market before or after the event. The market runs from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Todos Santos Plaza at Willow Pass and Grant Street.

The Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association is the state’s largest operator of Certified Farmers’ Markets, with over 60 Certified Farmers’ Markets weekly in the Bay Area during the peak summer months.
