Contra Costa County Genealogical Society Meeting

The Contra Costa County Genealogical Society will hold its October meeting on
October 10 at 7 p.m. at the LDS church at 1360 Alberta Way, Concord. The speaker
will be map enthusiasist, Teresta Costa Fraser. The audience will be treated to
an overview of historical maps and how they can be used in genealogy. Teresa
will discuss how to find hstorical maps in libraries, archives and on the
internet. She will share examples of how she found  maps of the places her
ancestors lived, including,  the Azores, Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi and
California. Historical maps can be used not only to find the exact location your
ancestors lived but  together with other sources like vital records, census,
city directories, tax lists or land records, can provide you with a different
perspective of your family history.

Teresa is a member of several
genealogy societies including both national,  county, and the Livermore-Amador
Genealogical Society. She was elected the 2nd Vice President and Membership
Chair of the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society for 2011 and 2012. She has
also managed the society's volunteer efforts at the Dublin Public Library during
Family History Month for the past three years. Holding an MBA, Teresa has worked
as an adjunct professor for the San Diego Community College District  and a
small business consultant facilitating the startup of hundreds of small
businesses.
