Concord Art Association (CAA)

presents Grace Rankin November 12, 2013

Collage Demonstration

Grace Rankin, award-winning artist and teacher, began

painting in 1980 as a hobby which quickly became a full time career. Her

commitment to art is evident in her compelling watercolors, oils, pastels and

mixed media.

Rankin’s paintings have hung in the Hall of Flowers in

Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the Triton Museum in Santa Clara CA, The

Harrington Gallery and in the Fresno Metropolitan Art Museum, Fresno CA.

A signature member of SWA since 1987, her paintings possess
a vital energy and presence that reflect the sensitivity and color sense of

this natural artist. There is nothing contrived or superfluous in her work.

When asked how she expresses herself in her paintings, Grace says that she

thinks of her paintings as vehicles for feelings and moods as well as ideas. “I

want my paintings to reach out to the viewer so that he/she will relate to how

I feel about the subject.”

Rankin’s paintings are in the collections of the Hayward

Area Recreation Dept., Cities of Fremont, Emeryville, Elk Grove and Chowchilla

as well as many private collectors worldwide including Mr. and Mrs. Clint Eastwood.

Two of her paintings were presented to Fremont ‘s Sister

City of Fukaya, Japan as well as one to Lipa City in the Phillipines.

Since her husband’s retirement Grace and Jack took to” the
road” in a 36’ motorhome. As well as travelling around the US, Canada and Mexico, Grace has spent time painting in Scotland, Italy and France. They have
now returned to Fremont in the San Francisco Bay area after 14 years of RV
living.

Grace has conducted a sketchbook/watercolor tour of the

Highlands and Islands of Scotland and taught at la Romita School of Art in

Italy. Rankin taught for Vision Academy of the Arts in Oakhurst CA and the

Yosemite Assn. Recent painting/teaching trips on Celebrity Cruises have been

rewarding.
