Weather: Rain Expected to Halt Dry Season

A series of weather systems will bring water over the Bay Area and snow to the Sierras in the coming week, meteorologists say.

First the cold, now the rain!

After a couple of seriously cold nights - with the below freezing temperature of 27 degrees recorded at Concord's Buchanan Field Airport Tuesday morning - wet weather systems will finally bring one of the driest winters on record to a halt Thursday through next week.

Heavy clouds are expected to gradually roll in to deliver light showers Thursday and Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Forecast Service.

Temperatures will remain above the freezing point of 32 degrees Fahrenheit in Concord, however. Thursday and Friday's high are expected at 58 degrees, while lows are expected in the low 40s, according to WeatherBug.com.

If you've been waiting for a chance to ski or snow board, get your gear ready and pay attention to snowcasts, as fresh powder is finally expected to fall upon Sierra peaks in the coming week.
