Update: Power Restored to 22,000 PG&E Customers

Though unconfirmed, lightning strikes were likely the cause, according to PG&E.

Power was restored to all East Bay customers late Friday night after an outage had affected some 22,000 customers from earlier that evening, according to a utility spokeswoman.

The outage affected customers in Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Concord and was initially reported around 5 p.m., spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

Customers in Walnut Creek were the last to have power fully restored at 11:30 p.m. More than 10,000 customers in other areas had power back around 8 p.m., according to Morris.

The cause of what was a substation failure was not immediately known, however Morris said there had reports of lightening strikes in the area.
