Santa to Drop From the Sky in Concord Saturday

Won't this freak out Rudolph?

Santa is set to ditch the Red-nosed Reindeer over Concord skies Saturday morning. Literally.

Santa Claus will land at 10 a.m. behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Concord via parachute, according to a statement from the Contra Costa County Administrator's Office.

After touching down at Buchanan Field Airport with the help of Bay Area Skydiving, the jolly holiday figure will greet and take pictures with the public.

The event is free, but Santa Claus' helpers are asking those who
wish to take a picture with him to bring a non-perishable food item or a
monetary donation for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

The airport, in association with Bay Area Skydiving and Crowne Plaza Hotel, will photograph and handout prints at no charge, but welcomes those wishing to pose with Santa in front of a Stinson airplane to bring their own cameras.

In the event of rainy weather, Santa Claus will be available to
meet and greet youngsters at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near Buchanan Field
Airport and in the Bay Area Skydiving hangar at Byron Airport.

For more than ten years, the two airports have coordinated Santa
Claus's drop-in event to benefit the local food bank, an airport
administrator said.

Santa will land at the Byron airport 2 p.m. at Bay Area Skydiving, located on 6900 Falcon Road in Byron.
