New Grocery Store, Parking Lot Agreement and Library Story Time
A look back at the stories on Clayton Patch in the last week.
Missed anything from Clayton Patch this week? We got you covered:
- We started the week with a look at what will soon be the newest grocery store in in the Clayton area, Fresh & Easy in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center. The store had plans to expanded to the Bay Area in 2008, but were setback with the fall in the economy. It's scheduled to open March 16.
- The World Series trophy came to Walnut Creek Monday, giving hundreds of San Francisco Giants fans a chance to see the trophy that eluded them for so many years.
- The City of Clayton and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District came to an agreement to green-light a parking lot extension at the Clayton Community Park. Approval from the school district was needed because a 15-foot wide portion of the proposed parking lot stretches across its adjacent vacant property.
- Author Jean Grant spoke at the about her book, The Burning Veil. She told an audiance of about 25 that the veil is embraced by many women in Saudi Arabia.
- Also at the library, we took a look at "Patty Cakes," a weekly story time for kids under the age of 3 hosted by Mary McKillen-Wright. Not only is a time for kids to listen to stories and sing some songs, but it also gives parents a chance to talk about the issues they face every day. .
- Our new weekly feature Viewfider started Thursday, with 2-year-old Olivia Clement stealing the show.
- In sports, and the boys basketball team lost to cross-town rival Concord.
- In columns this week, Jorie Hanson wrote about how it takes a team to run a farm; Kevin Keeler shared with us ; Miranda Lutz told us about her battling back from her soccer knee inury.
- Lastly, our food critic went to and told us what the restaurant has plans for Sunday.
