Meet a Fox, Read to a Dog

It's gonna be wet this weekend so stay dry with these fun indoor activities.

Model Train Show

  • Where/When: ; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Why Go: The invites you to come and see the largest H.O. scale layout on permanent display in the Bay Area and one of the five largest in the United States.
  • Price: Adults $3; children (6-12) and seniors $2; Children under 6 free
 While you’re there … Visit the new fox
  • Where/When: Lindsay Wildlife Museum; Wednesdays-Fridays, noon to 5 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Lindsay Wildlife Museum has welcomed a new addition: a young gray fox. The fox has been in his enclosure at the museum since Feb. 9 with the viewing window covered to allow him time to become used to his new surroundings. The gray fox is the only member of the dog family that can easily climb trees.
  • Price: Adults $7, $6 seniors 65+, $5 children 2-17
A Sky Full of Stars & Strange Planets
  • Where: Lawrence Hall Of Science; Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.
  • Why Go: The hall uses its planetarium as a time machine to speed through a day, observing the sky from the sun to the stars. Once night falls, the audience can gaze at the Big Dipper and imagine pictures in the stars. Then planet hop within our solar system and visit planets up close.
  • Price: $4 per person
Magical Moonshine Puppet Theater
  • Where: Pleasant Hill Library, 1750 Oak Park Blvd.; Tuesday, 6–7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Join other children for an entertaining puppet show.
  • Price: Free

  • Why Go: Many Contra Costa libraries have a program to encourage children who are having trouble with their reading. Children in grades 1 though 5 can go to the library and read to a dog. It can have a calming influence on reluctant readers. For more locations and times, go to ccclib.org.
