Major Renovations for Downtown Bank Building

The Bank of America banking center on Willow Pass Road will get a "facelift," and construction will last about three months.

If you're heading into downtown Concord, don't be surprised to see a lot of construction in front of the Bank of America banking center at 2020 Willow Pass Road. Beginning today, the three story, 52,879-square-foot building is getting a facelift.

The downtown building—built in 1980—and its parking structure will undergo exterior renovations that are expected to be completed in three months.

The building stretches an entire block between Galindo Street and Mt. Diablo Street, and houses a retail banking center and multiple other businesses. Renovations will begin with removal of the "arcade" arches over the sidewalk, which will temporarily restrict access to the sidewalk and the right lane of traffic on Willow Pass Road.

Following that work, the building’s aging awnings will be removed, which will necessitate scaffolding that will remain in place throughout the duration of the project. During this time, the sidewalk under the scaffolding will be closed. Customers will be able to enter the banking center at the garage entrance off of Mt. Diablo Street.

The final phase will be painting the entire building and installing new awnings, to integrate with the look of the redeveloped downtown architecture.

“We are pleased with Bank of America’s commitment to the downtown revitalization and beautification effort,” says John Montagh, Concord’s Redevelopment and Housing Manager. “Bank of America has a long-standing relationship with Concord, and the city is working closely with the bank to ensure the renovation work will happen with the least disruption possible to the public and customers.”
