June Will Start Off Windy, Rainy and Chilly

Temperatures should remain in the 50s and 60s for the week.

Weather is expected to remain on the gloomy side for at least another week in Clayton. We would be fortunate to get any 70 degree days before the first Monday in June.  Instead, we should have high temperatures in the 60s and low temperatures near 50 until then. Wind speeds will remain high and the chance of precipitation is 10-40 percent each day this week. We should see about a quarter of an inch rain in Clayton this week, which is rare for the beginning of June.

We've been robbed of the typical springlike weather by a powerful climate pattern: La Nina. It happens because when the water temperature of the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean is cooler than average the atmosphere reacts with abnormal weather. The good news is that the water temperature is back near neutral. However, there is a lag time until we return to typical weather conditions. It looks as though the weather will be returning to normal by the beginning of summer. Clayton may have missed out on a warm spring, but at least summer is around the corner.
