A homeless man who police said was hit by a car while jaywalking across a Concord street earlier this month has died, a Contra Costa County deputy coroner said today.
Mitchell Carscadden, 52, of Concord, was struck and critically injured in the 4600 block of Clayton Road around 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 10, police said. Carscadden was taken to John Muir Medical Center to be treated for life-threatening injuries. He died from those injuries the afternoon of Feb. 15, according to the deputy coroner.
Police Lt. Bill Roche said the driver involved in the crash was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Roche said police have confirmed that Carscadden was jaywalking when he was hit.
Carscadden was homeless at the time of his death and was known to frequent the Clayton Road corridor where he was struck, Roche said.
