Families of Missing Baja Fishermen Raise Funds to Continue Search

Families of Bay Area men missing after their boat capsized in the Sea of Cortez on the July Fourth weekend will be at Todos Santos Thursday to raise funds for search efforts.

Families of the seven men still missing after their fishing boat capsized in the Sea of Cortez July Fourth weekend are fundraising to continue the search and bring the men home.

Friends and relatives established the group "Find Our Fathers" to "spread the word" and "get support from all local, state and federal government representatives," according to the group's Facebook page.

Since the  on July 12, their families have been petitioning to get recovery efforts reinstated, especially a dive to the sunken boat.

In the meantime, the families are trying to raise $300,000 to fund a dive themselves. Find Our Fathers will be accepting donations and petition signatures. 

A rock band will hold a free concert Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Todos Santos Farmer's Market in Concord. Representatives from the families will be at the farmer's market from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the Rubinoos will play at 6:30 p.m.

Another event will be held on August 16 at 5 p.m. at the Hawaiian Drive Inn in Alameda, in honor of , 54, who is among the missing men.
