Creekside Arts Event Starts Weekend With Reptiles and Winners

Clayton artists show off their work.

The Creekside Art Celebration kicked off Friday night at the Clayton Community Library.

Creekside Artists Guild sponsors the annual event that coincides with the anniversary of the opening of the Clayton Library.

Concord resident and Guild member Alice Martinez explained that, “20 percent of sales made during the celebration goes to the Clayton Library Foundation.”

Many Guild members are Clayton residents but artists from nearby communities are welcome.

The event opened with Vice Mayor Howard Geller welcoming the artists and attendees and thanking the art community for their support of the library.

Art displays ranged from paintings and photography to jewelry and pottery.

Also in attendance was Clayton resident Leslie Jordan of Animal Adaptations with a display of reptiles and amphibians. Jordan provides educational outreach for school age children and rescues reptile pets.

The artists’ work was judged by a jury of judges. The judges were, Carrie Brewster Director of the Hearst Art Gallery, St. Mary’s College. Jacquelyn Smith of Presentation Art Concepts, Inc. and returning Judge Christine Callahan of the Arts and Cultural Commission of Contra Costa County.

In the Painting and Mixed Media category, third place went to Leslie Wilson, second to Sharon Tama and the first place ribbon was split between Sharon Tama and Leslie Wilson.

In the Photography category, Ted Arden took third place. Second was tied between Leo Schindler and Ted Arden with Ted Arden took first place.

In the 3D category, Tammy Sasak took third place, with second place going to Carolyn Victoria. First place was awarded to Brielle Napper.

Best Composition went to Leslie Wilson. Best Technique was awarded to Leo Schindler. Best Color went to Ted Arden. Sharon Tama took the Best Presentation ribbon and the Best Theme awards.

In the judge’s choice category, Carrie Brewster’s choice was Ted Arden. Christine Callahan selected Sharon Tama, and Jacquelyn Smith awarded Brielle Napper with her selection.

This year’s theme for the Celebration was “Inspiration for a better world.”

The Creekside Art Celebration will continue it’s showing throughout the weekend.
