Concord Remains Most Populous City In Contra Costa County; Clayton Is The Smallest

A new state report shows that Concord grew by 0.4 percent and Clayton grew by 0.8 percent in 2012.

Concord's population grew by 0.4 percent as the city easily retained its crown as Contra Costa County's largest city.

Figures released by the state Department of Finance show Concord added almost 500 residents in 2012.

Concord's population is now 123,812. It's easily ahead of Antioch and Richmond, both of which have about 105,000 people.

The smallest city is next door in Clayton, which has slightly more than 11,093 people. Clayton added almost 100 people last year for a growth rate of 0.8 percent.

Contra Costa County's population grew by 0.8 percent last year to 1,074,072.

Over in Alameda County, Dublin had the second highest growth rate in California with 6.8 percent.

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
