Clayton's Unemployment Rate Still an Amazing 2.7 Percent

Clayton's unemployment rate is nearly 10 percent below the state average.

While the unemployment rate continues to stay high around the nation, it continues to stay in low in Clayton.

The July unemployment rate in Clayton is 2.7 percent, exactly where it was in June.

California's Employment Development Department has released the latest jobless figures. Unlike in the Clayton enclave, the region fared worse in July than the month before.

The unemployment rate in the Oakland-Fremont-Hayward area hit 11 percent in July, but still below the 11.6 percent from the same time in 2010.

The area shed 4,600 jobs from June to July. The government sector saw the biggest losses, cutting 5,600 people from the workforce. The region hired 3,000 workers for construction and manufacturing positions.

California's unemployment rate came in at 12.4 percent for July and the nation's at 9.3 percent.

Contra Costa County's unemployment was 11 percent, the same as Alameda County's, according to Gina Del Carlo, of Contra Costa County's WorkForce Development Board.
