Another Quake Shakes East Bay Wednesday Morning

The tremor was measured at 3.6-magnitude, the same magnitude of a quake felt Tuesday night.

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook the East Bay Wednesday morning just minutes before 10 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The morning quake comes a half-day after a magnitude 3.6 earthquake jolted the East Bay late Tuesday night shortly after 11:35p.m., followed by a 2.3 magnitude quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Wednesday's earthquake occurred 3.11 miles northeast of San Leandro. That's the same epicenter of the two quakes Tuesday evening. The three earthquakes also had the same depth of approximately 5.7 miles.

USGS seismologist David Oppenheimer told KCBS radio last night's quake was actually a "fore quake" to this morning's main quake.

He said the quakes are on an active portion of the Hayward fault and it's not unusual to have similiar size quakes within a 24-hour period.

On Facebook, readers described Thursday night's quake as a strong jolt. One reader said she "heard rumbling before I actually felt anything." Others said they felt nothing, but their pets were acting strange before the tremor.

Central California was also hit by a 4.2-magnitude earthquake just before 5 a.m. Wednesday with an epicenter about 9 miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes, according to the USGS.

Wednesday's earthquakes comes one day after a 5.8-magnitude tremor hit the East Coast, about 38 miles outside of Richmond, Virginia.
