All Work and No Play

The seniors of 2012 are still learning to cope with balancing college applications and the normalities of school.

Playtime is over for the graduating class of 2012...

With college deadlines fast-approaching and the last SAT and ACT test days nearly here, I think we can safely say we are officially in senior crunch time. You see, most people think your senior year of high school is fun, and to an extent it is — with grad night, senior picnic, senior brunch, senior ball and senioritis making the time fly by.

But the side of senior year that people don't see is full of the most stressful decisions in a student's life. After barely surviving the chaos of junior year, many seniors are ready to forget about school and focus on college apps and the pursuit of the biggest dorm room. What they forget is that they will still have all the pressures of homework, tests and projects to deal with as well.

With so many responsibilities on the shoulders of our youth there also come a lot of questions. "How many colleges should I apply to? Where should I apply? What major do I want to pursue? Will I be matched with the right roommate? How often will I make it home?" But most importantly...

"Where will I get in?"

For seniors embarking on this journey, it's a little bit frightening to know that they will be leaving in eight months, but add in the fact that they have no idea where they're going? It's a lot to take in.

So as these hardworking souls stumble through unknown territory and try to find their way to the right school, it's important that they keep a few things in mind. Sure, writing the best essay and fluffing up your extracurriculars can't hurt, but the best thing to do is remember to find a community and place you want to be a part of. It's going to be your home for the next few years, so don't forget to make it a good one.
