Readers' Choice: Best Outdoor Dining

Where do you like to dine al fresco in Martinez?

There's something about a soft breeze on a warm evening that makes everything from haute cuisine to greasy fast food taste better.

The City Council is going to discuss a plan to add more outdoor dining for downtown eateries at its meeting on Wednesday.

Now that the weather is turning balmy, and we are enjoying the best of our Mediterranean climate, it seemed like a good time to ask about the best places in Martinez to eat outdoors.

I wonder who undertook the improvements to the former Bertola's yellow house--tenant or property owner? Of course, not counting the creek reinforcements and the acquisition of some city property to the property--we tax payers paid for that. Good luck 500'rs.

I believe the tenant undertook the improvements to Creek Monkey...to the tune of nearly $500,000.

Thanks Patrick. I think I will visit it, then, someday. Why would someone put $500,000 into a restaurant in Martinez? Is the return really that good? Does an investment group need a tax write off? I will visit it once I get through Haute Stuffe's entire menu. And sit outside while I still can. La Tapatia is going to be hurting without its outside dining, especially in the summer.

Now, now, I still say the elevated desk in city hall that has the council and mayor looking down on everyone should be removed. It gives a mind set of "lords and peons" the instant one walks into the room and it seems to work very well for them. Being at eye level with those they are supposed to be working for makes more sense and might help eliminate the "dictorial atmosphere" there. Okay, maybe just half way down! I say use some of the monies aimed at the marina to fund the islands on Main street and make them the same as what is now at the 500 block - it works! Why fix what isn't broke and also put the financial burden on the businesses in these difficult times? Are the town land lords pushing the council to chase out the business tenants for the purpose of tax write offs or ??? Shouldn't the council should be supporting the economics of the city and not undermining it? Is a full moon is doing it's work? Who knows? Guess it is true that you can't fix stupid!
