Kentucky Fried Chicken Reopens After Health Department Closure

Contra Costa County Health Services allowed the fast food place in Concord to continue serving food.

A Kentucky Fried Chicken in Concord, California reopened this week, after the county health department shut it down for health code violations.

The fast food establishment, located in the 2100 block of Monument Boulevard, was closed on December 12, 2013 for sewage and clogged drainage problems. It reopened on December 13, according to Contra Costa County Health Services Department records.

This is the latest in a string of violations, according to KFC's inspection history.

The fast food restaurant had three minor violations on September 23, 2013 that included improper sanitation of food contact surfaces and a failure to keep serving utensils clean.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken has a dubious cleanliness record that goes all the way back to 2009, when an inspector found major violations of the county's health code. During an inspection in February 2009 an inspector discovered that utensils were not being maintained or cleaned. Later that year in July, evidence of rodents was discovered. That problem has not been completely addressed.

In November 2011 and again in June 2012, the health department found evidence of rodents in the building. It is not clear if employee turnover rates have led to this inability to keep the food establishment in accordance with health code.

KFC employees declined to comment.
