East Bay Unemployment Rates Decreased in August

California's Employment Development Department released August labor statistics Friday that detail a decrease in unemployment throughout the state.

Here in the East Bay, the unemployment rate dropped by almost two percentage points in a year, compared to data from August 2012.
 
Contra Costa County’s unemployment rate was 7.3 percent out of the 536,100 people in its labor force last month. That is a 1.8 percent decrease from data released one year ago. 


Alameda County’s unemployment rate was 7.4 percent out of a labor force of 777,400. That is a decrease of 1.9 percent from the same time period last year. 

California's unemployment rate reached 8.9 percent in August, while the U.S. unemployment rate decreased to 7.3 percent, according to the California Employment Development Department.
