Drive-In on 'Dome' Demolishers List of Development Projects

The West Wind Solano drive-in in Concord is listed on SyWest's website under "development projects" as a possible location for "a grocery anchored retail center."

The same developer responsible for demolishing Pleasant Hill's "dome" theater also owns Concord's drive-in movie theater — and the site is listed as a "development project" on the company's website.

SyWest Development has created a marketing kit for the almost 14-acre plot at 1611 Solano Way, and under the "property highlights" section, it says "proposed new construction of a grocery anchored retail center."

The listing also includes demographic information for the area as well as site plans.

When asked about the property, SyWest's Bill Vierra said:

Heard there are lots of rumors being generated on various blogs etc, which is unfortunate and potentially hurtful. In spite of what they may say we are not "processing plans" for the drive-ins.

SyWest also owns the West Wind Drive-In in San Jose, although this property is listed under "land inventory" rather than "development projects" on the SyWest website.

Do you think the West Wind Solano Drive-In theater is going to last? Or will it go the way of the "dome"? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
