Get Nerdy on Free Comic Book Day Saturday

Holy free comics, Batman! Local comic book stores will be giving away thousands of free comic books on May 5, a.k.a. Free Comic Book Day. Events and signings too!

The most powerful characters in the fictional realm are coming to a comic book store near you ... for free.

Saturday, May 5 is the national Free Comic Book Day, which means that superheroes and superheroines like Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman can be yours for the discounted price of nothing. And since nerd is the new cool, Free Comic Book Day is the perfect time to get some practice in comic book lore at your local comic book store.

Concord's  will give away thousands of free comic books on Saturday, and will also play host to comic book writers Zack Whedon (Star WarsSerenity and Terminator:1984 comics) and Georges Jeanty (Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic). Whedon and Jeanty will be signing their FCBD Special Edition comics, along with their other work, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mayor Ron Leone, who has publicly declared his love for comics in past council meetings and drives a Superman-themed car, will be stopping by at 12:30 p.m. for a presentation. Then from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Flying Colors hosts the writer/artist team of Landry Walker & Eric Jones (Danger Club comic book series and Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade)

is getting in the spirit too, by giving away a free comic book from a pre-determined selection with any in-store purchase, while supplies last.
