Salvador Santana To Perform in Todos Santos Thursday

The son of Carlos Santana brings a fusion of hip-hop, funk and world-beat grooves to the Todos Santos stage as part of the 2013 Music and Market Series.

The June 6 concert in the 2013 Music and Market Series features Salvador Santana, son of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana, who performs at 6:30 p.m. in Todos Santos Plaza.

The 29-year-old is a Bay Area native is about to release a new, six-song EP titled, "Rise Up," which he says was inspired by a Nelson Mandela quote: "The greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall." The "Rise Up" EP will be available June 11 on iTunes.

Santana is a keyboardist, vocalist, composer and songwriter who began playing the drums at age three, according to the musician's website. He discovered his true love when he began taking piano lessons at the age of six and went on to study at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and Cal Arts in Valencia to become a "monster on the keys."

The young Santana has music in his blood, from blues pioneer and maternal grandfather Saunders King to paternal grandfather Jose Santana, who was an internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader. Then there's his father, of course, Carlos Santana, with whom Salvador co-wrote the Grammy-winning “El Farol” from the 1999 album "Supernatural".

His current solo project represents Salvador Santana's breakout as an artist of his own. After spending the past two years performing live at venues and outdoor festivals throughout the U.S., the summer of 2013 will find Santana on the road again touring through the west — starting right here in Concord on June 6.

The concerts as part of the Music and Market series are free and run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
